India’s incredible draw lures huge squads from Australia and England

I knew instinctively that the world began to see a larger image of Community Games 2010 Delhi, when one of his last interviews, foreign journalist asked me about the importance of the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi of India as a soft power. Is 155 days until the start of games, there is growing awareness about India and its incredible draw.

Maybe that's why we continue to hear good news from countries as distant as Australia and England. Last week, the Australian Commonwealth Games Association CEO Perry Crosswhite and Mr. Commonwealth Games in England chairman Sir Andrew Foster sure their athletes, that Delhi is more reliable and safer for their athletes, and said that they both offer the largest contingents to the outside of his Commonwealth Games home states. Between these two teams, I think they will do almost 1200 participants in the games.

In terms of sports, I was pleased to hear that Australia has named a preliminary squad of 69 athletes including world pole vault champion Steve Hooker. Australia has also announced a 48-member swimming contingent, including the 2008 Olympic winner Stephanie Rice and former world rekordman Eamon Sullivan. Olympic silver medalist Geoff Huegill, who lost 45 kilograms a year and a half, is also in the team. Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington and Liam Tancock world champions and Gemma Spofforth will pave the way for England challenge in swimming races.

I was also pleased when I learned that in England is Bradley Wiggins, who had three Olympic gold medals and five world championship titles against his name, decided to focus on the competitiveness of the Commonwealth Games before the World Cup will be held in Australia in September 2010th And in Adelaide, World and Olympic champion Anna Meares, who is expected to compete in three events in New Delhi, said all the Australian riders were looking forward to locking horns with the British opponents and a strong New Zealand team to play.

Indeed, the 2010 Queen's Baton Delhi was in Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast earlier this month, we saw how sport can be a wonderful bridge between companies. Sport is a balm that soothes the emotions, while increasing the fuel that drive intense passion among people, watch the competition. Friendship through Sport is one of our key issues and we will see emerge in bulk when the torch reaches India from the Wagah border on 25th June, 2010.

At home, as we prepare to host the Commonwealth Games Federation Co-coordinating Committee next month, we are absolutely sure that we are on the way to organize a great game that leaves an impact in the minds of all involved - athletes, technical officials, sponsors, broadcasters and other media; volunteers, spectators and especially citizens of Delhi. We have a huge response to our volunteer program Delhi United, inspiring confidence that the city is young and old began to take games. Moreover, I see a growing awareness of the Olympic sport in this country and this is really heart-warming.

Let me keep thinking in Australia is a statement Chef de Mission. Beautiful marathon runner in his day, and the mayor Games Village in 2006, Steve Moneghetti media said, near the Queen's Baton Relay 2010 in Melbourne, that is really looking forward to return to Delhi in October. "It's place as a cosmopolitan place where you really loved," he said. I am sure that every guest will speak the same competitor, the games are complete. Yes, indeed, it is time for everyone to see what Delhi is a beautiful city and the beautiful country of India.

World champion Steve Hooker leads 69 Australian track and field hopefuls

Athletics Australia has named a 69-strong squad for the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi after the three-day Australian Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games selection trials in Perth, according to information reaching here.

As lots of as 41 athletes earned automatic nomination to the team based on their results. A further 28 athletes were today announced as discretionary nominations to the team, taking the total number of nominated athletes to 69. The squad includes 12 disabled athletes, the best-known being wheelchair racer Kurt Fearnley in the 1500m.

John Steffensen (400m and 4x400m relay) is another large name who will defend his 2006 titles in Delhi. Fabrice Lapierre, Chris Noffke and Mitchell Watt were all named in the men's long jump.

Newly-crowned national pole vault champion and athletics team captain Steve Hooker (pole vault) will lead a squad that features a true mix of youth and experience in to battle in Delhi, with Liz Parnov (pole vault) the youngest athlete nominated to today’s team at 15 years of age and track veteran Patrick Johnson (4x100m relay) the oldest at 37.

“God, I cannot even explain it, I am so overwhelmed and happy and grateful to my relatives and my coach,” Liz Parnov, 15-year-old daughter of Russian pole vault guru Alex Parnov, said. He had to concentrate hard during the competition to keep away from being distracted by her father Vicky's troubles. "I have my bad days, he (Vicky) has her bad days but in the finish we are still sisters," he said. He credited her father for blazing the trail for her to break in to the national team.

A team of up to 90 athletes is expected to be named to the final squad, to be announced following the close of the qualifying period on August 15, Athletics Australia said. With the window for automatic nomination to the team now closed, all future nominations will be made at the selectors' discretion.

“Knowing Vic could do it, it made me realise I had a chance and with my training group, I have Steve Hooker, Alana (Boyd), Amanda (Bisk), all of these brilliant pole vaulters,” he said. “To have jumped what I have jumped and to make it is cold.... But I don't think about how elderly I am, I am like everyone else, trying to do my best.”

Australian Commonwealth Games Association Chief Executive Mr. Perry Crosswhite said the Games were a great place for young Australian athletes to “'learn to win [against international competition at a major event]. The Commonwealth Games gives them that opportunity [to win] then they go on [to win elsewhere]. That is what happened with Steve Hooker who won at the Commonwealth Games, then went on to win the Olympics and world championships.”

That means the door remains open for two-time world champion Jana Rawlinson, recovering from injury, to defend her 400m and 4x400m relay titles, with places still available in those events. Snyders and Palmer join list of Delhi-bound New Zealand swimmers

jhgasdjhg

Glenn Snyders Olympic and Hayley Palmer became the fifth and sixth of New Zealand swimmers to qualify for Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 when they won the 100m butterfly men and women, respectively, 100 m freestyle swimming championships in New Zealand Auckland on Wednesday.

According to media reports in New Zealand, Snyders passed the mark of 50 meters in 28.70 seconds and although his career cut short in the final 15m he had enough in the tank to win in 1:01.56, which was 2 / 10ths under the qualifying time. He finished ahead of United States based on Ferrif Westgaard Nic and Lucas.

Snyders gave the birthday present perfect to describe the Delhi 2010. He said it was mission accomplished, but wanted a better performance. "I was very relaxed this morning (in qualifying) and swam well. Probably just did too much in the final race was not so long and not as soft as this morning.

"But tonight was to make the qualifying time. Now I have time to work on swim faster and be competitive is time for the Commonwealth Games. It was a good birthday, sure."

It was a similar story in the 100m freestyle Palmer, who was also fractionally before the time of heat in 26.29sec. She clung to gain in 55.17 seconds ahead of Tash Hind and Penelope Marshall to go with the qualifying mark by 2/10ths of a second.

"That is certainly a nice result. The focus of this night was taking place then qualifying," said Palmer. "The goal was to go faster, but above all it was qualifying. He knew that to get to my New Zealand record of 53-high which was set in full costume was unrealistic, but my goal is to be very competitive at the time they get to New Delhi. "

Corney Swanepoel finished a close second to training partner Moss Burmester in the 100m butterfly and men, both on the outskirts of the Games qualifying time. Burmester won in 53.69 seconds to 53.92 seconds Swanepoel announced ahead of Matt Thomas in third.

"It was slow. I can only attribute to the truth because it suits both Corney and I've been training up our best moments," said Burmester. "It will take some time to adjust, but I am gutted for Corney."

Burmester earns right to defend 200m butterfly gold at Delhi 2010

Commonwealth Games Melbourne 2006 gold medalist Moss Burmester (New Zealand) will be in New Delhi to defend his 200m butterfly title, after going half a second in the qualifying time at the National Swimming Championships at the Aquatic Center West wave in Waitakere on Monday.

Burmester became the 100 meters in 55.60 and won in 1:57.43, half a second inside the qualifying mark, according to reports from the media in New Zealand. He was one of three to qualify for the opening night of the championship which is twice as the Commonwealth Games trials, with qualifying times can only be addressed in the final.

The American-based Lauren Boyle has qualified for his second Commonwealth Games after winning the women's 200 freestyle, while 20-year-old Natalie Wiegersma became the first swimmer to south in 20 years to qualify when he broke his own New Zealand record in the 200 meters individual medley.

"There was a fair bit of pressure and I think for me it was to do the job and make the qualifying time," Burmester told reporters. "I'm still getting used to compete without the suit. My training times have been quite similar, but I'm used to bring the suit and probably enhanced mental and physical both. Now I'm getting used to racing without him.

"I've lost a little out of returning home. Tomé air about five meters out so I'll get a bit of a bollocking from my coach about that. It's nice and a relief to get the qualifying time. There are a lot of hard work ahead. I always want to do better than I did before, so I want to go to Delhi and defend the gold, "said Burmester.
