Netball top ranked teams are backing the opening of big wins and India will make its debut at the Commonwealth Games Netball on the second day of competition in the Thyagaraja Sports Complex today.
In the first match of the day, at 09:30, South Africa open their campaign against an English team games pumped by a 81-20 victory on the first day of a Barbados aggressive and athletic. South Africa has an advantage, but must take care of a team from England who made 81 of 99 shots.
Jamaica, then take on Malawi in the first match of Pool A Day, and the style of the two flags of the teams in this clash as a battle not-to-be-missed. Ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, this could be closer than expected as Jamaica may have difficulty backing up less than 24 hours after their 75-36 victory in a physical fight against Trinidad and Tobago. Goal shooter Romelda Aiken will return to Jamaica's go-to girl after scoring 37 goals in 43 shots.
New Zealand will be hoping to repeat their 102-21 hits Papua New Guinea, when playing the Cook Islands at 15:00. Expect another large margin for the Kiwis as they continue their quest for consecutive Games gold medals. The captain Casey Williams (NZL) is looking to add to his five interceptions first game, while teammate Irene Van Dyk should again be solid in the post.
The second day ends at 17:00 pm with host India, making his debut in the Games from the 2006 silver medalist Australia in the second Group A match. Australia made a slow start in their opening 76-39 win over Samoa, but is the favorite to win this game easily.
