Delhi 2010 will offer Commonwealth athletes best opportunity to perform: Kalmadi

Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi High Commissioners said today the nations of the Commonwealth that things were well on track to host athletes and officials from their countries, offer them the opportunity to stay and perform in world-class facilities - and in a safe and secure environment.

"The athlete is the focus and everything that happens in the conduct of the Games has been designed with this in mind," Organizing Committee President Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, MP, told the High Commissioners during an interaction at its headquarters here Monday. "We also take the Commonwealth Games 2010 to help promote the economic potential of India and attract greater economic cooperation of the Commonwealth nations and territories.

"I seek your cooperation to help the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi be a success," he told the High Commissioners. "I look forward to use its good offices to help make this memorable Games, ensuring that the best athletes represent their nations in the Commonwealth Games.

"I am also confident of his support in promoting high-powered delegations in companies come and participate in the Games and the number of business seminars we have planned. It is our endeavor to create a network environment for business leaders Community and our partnership with FICCI and CII will go a long way in ensuring that our objectives are met, "said Kalmadi.

Mr Kalmadi said the Commonwealth Games Association of Australia CEO, Mr Perry Cross white: "These Games have the potential to be better than the Melbourne Games." He thanked the Commonwealth Games Associations to show their enthusiasm to confirm the participation of a large number of athletes and officials. He made special mention of Australia, England and Wales, which are sending the largest ever contingent for the Games. Mr. Kalmadi said that all places are world class and would be completed well in time.

He talked about the India Business Club, which held exhibitions on every continent, along with Queen Baton Relay 2010 as part of that attempt to show the perfect synergy between modern sport and business. "BCI has projected India's image and drew international cooperation in key areas such as information technology, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, higher education, skills, environment, advanced technologies and high."

Mr Kalmadi said the Organising Committee Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 has on board a number of foreign consultants who bring rich experience in a variety of fields. "Along with a great team of trained personnel to meet the protocol and hospitality, we will ensure that its athletes and officials are at home, experiencing the famous Indian hospitality," he said.

Representatives, including high commissioners, deputy commissioners and delegates of high commerce of several nations of the Commonwealth attended the meeting. South Africa, United Kingdom, Australia, Mauritius, Kenya, Jamaica, Singapore, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Gambia, Zambia, the Bahamas and Malaysia were among the countries represented. The delegates expressed their satisfaction with the progress made by the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 Organising Committee (OC CWG Delhi 2010).
