
India has been grouped with the reigning Rugby World Cup Sevens champions Wales, 2002bronze medalist in South Africa, Tonga in Group B in the rugby competition in the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 XIX to be held here October 11 and 12.
New Zealand, who won three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games rugby competition, is the head of series and leads the Group A, where they will face Scotland, Canada and Guyana.
Reigning IRB Sevens World Series Samoa leads Group C with the ever dangerous Kenya, Uganda cranes and exciting Puks Papua New Guinea Puk, while 2006 silver medalist in England will face Australia, which ended this year's World Series the third place behind Samoa and New Zealand. Namibia and Sri Lanka are the other teams in Group D in the competition to be held in the 10 132 capacity stadium for rugby at the University of Delhi.
"Having played Sevens at the Commonwealth Games plays an integral role in the continued development and promotion of rugby worldwide," said the President of the International Rugby Board, Bernard Lapasset. "The event features teams from Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, North America and the Caribbean continues to attract the best players in the world, delivering the exciting matches and attract new fans.

Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive Mike Hooper said Sevens Rugby had become one of the most sought after attractions in the Commonwealth Games, providing a great show for the fans and viewers. "The inclusion of some of the best teams in the world and star of Seven players from all over the world continue to broaden the appeal of global games in the future," he said.
The International Rugby Board, together with the Federation of Commonwealth Games has announced the draw for the pool for the Rugby Sevens event in the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi, India on 11-12 October.
Marked almost exactly one year after its inclusion Sevens "as an Olympic sport at the 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen, the tournament will be the first opportunity to witness its mix of proven high-octane action and competitive matches in a multi- Sports Games.
The tournament schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
